weekend 12/19-12/21

so this weekend was rather slow and uneventful.
Friday night was slow so i went in saturday morning to a nice run. tho i ran into a dumb bitch in perth amboy, that i had to handle on my way back in the next night. i called her 15 mins ahead from my last stop prior in edison to let her know i'm coming. (btw its about 3-4am) when i get to the house, its a big/nice house for the town. i ring the doorbell and it is sooooo loud and echos throughout the house, i didn't dare ring it again, cause surely the people woke up. when they didn't come to the door, i moved on. the next night when i return, she gives me crap for only giving her 15 mins warning and told me she actually called the cops on me in the morning. 15 mins is not enough time for you lady? thats plenty of time to put a robe and slippers and be at the door waiting bitch!
On saturday night i ended  up getting nice cash flow going.& going all over the state: marlboro, monroe, piscataway, bernardsviller, montville, oranges, etc.
the marlboro, my dispacthers told them i'd be there by midnight, so i did that first, then monroe, needed their bags asap, cause they needed to travel again in the morning.
boy! was monroe weird stop. turned out they lived in a gated old farts comunity. the gate was unmanned by the time i arrived, so i had to use the intercom to be buzzed in... but for some reason I had to punch the code in... VISITORS AREN'T SUPPOSED TO KNOW THE CODE! then when i get in there, i pass the house up by 1 house when i park. as i park in comes the wife, and she calls to me that i missed the house, she yell this to me and soon the husband says "over here" like i can't see that i missed, and that i MUST move my car closer to their house to make the delivery. i yelled back: "it's 30 feet, i can make that," "seriously... i'm 30 years old, if i can't carry 2 bags 30 ft on level ground, i shouldn't be doing this job" i thought to myself.
from monroe i did piscataway, where i got a nice $20 tip, then a few other stops till i got to Gillette. Gillette was an anal rich bitch, that SOOO had to sign for her bag, even tho the driveway from street to house, was a football field long on a slight incline, not to mention she had a 4 car garage, plus one outside.
Montville was a $55 tip so i got $27.5. with no tip. and what a pain in the ass that fucking stop was. first of all the BDO (baggage delivery order) says "long driveway" so when i find the mailbox, i pick the driveway, that i can't see the house from the road, then drive my not good for inclines 4 cylinder vehicle up a near vertical hill driveway, skidding to catch a grip at the bottom, only to find out once i park, its the wrong house, and the right one is infact the house i can see from the street. so i drive back down the driveway and up the other, only to find out that that driveway is even steeper, and there's less room to turn around, while still bein on an incline and almost hitting the lexus SUV and tipping my car over as i turned around. by the time i parked the hhr at the bottom of the drive, my heart was racing, and i still needed to get back up the hill by foot. needless to say, i was out of breath by the time i was done. Moral to this story: "Long Driveway," DOES NOT EQUAL "Steep as fuck driveway" also, if you're gonna have a pain in the ass house, FUCKING TIP BETTER!!!!
sunday morning was much better. it was nice and easy, and i didn't need to call steve when i got home. it actually feels weird when i don't have to call him.
i did have an interesting meal at a diner in linden, which i think i'm going to have to put in my review blog.
sunday night was ok except for this one red bank hiccup: they left a phone number, but the phone number was turned off, and i didn't find out till the next day that the charger was in the bag (i suspected that) PEOPLE: chargers aren't expensive! if you only give the airling ONE phone number, and the ONLY charger for that phone is in your lost bag... GO TO FUCKING RADIO SHACK, STAPLES, 7-11, RITE AID, CVS, WALMART, TARGET, AND BUY A FUCKING CHARGER!!!!!

Instructions

so here it is, finally i have a blog to post my tales from delivering lost luggage to people.
i invite anyone who wants to contribute, to post their own tales. plus i welcome coments, complaints, and your side of the story from those who i deliver to.

i'll start this blog out with reasons your luggage went missing, then describe the recovery process, then the do's and don'ts when it finally arives. note "luggage" can be any object checked at the counter at the airport i.e.: baggage, guitar, walker, carseat, carriage, cello, computer, tv, etc.

REASONS FOR "LOST LUGGAGE"
  • It got on a different plane then you did
    • lay overs and cancelations cause this to happen
    • large and odd shaped objects may not get on the plane due to shape or weight
  • airport security detained it because it was holding suspect material
    • if you are bringing food into the US that doesn't belong
    • if you have a container with liquid or other material that is suspect such as wax or lotion
    • something else looked weird when it went through the x-ray machine
STEPS TO LUGGAGE RECOVERY TIMELINE
  1. Airline "finds" your luggage
  2. Airline calls to inform you your luggage has been found and informs you of how long till you "should" recieve (perhaps 4-8 hrs) your luggage. (hr 1)
  3. You're luggage is handed over to and signed by agents of the logistics company assigned to arrange delivery
  4. Agents bring luggage back to a wharehouse where it is to be held till a contracted driver is able to deliver it. At this point you may be contacted by a dispatcher, as to the reciept and an ETA (Estimated [not exact] Time of Arival). Time from Airline to wharehouse: 2-4 hrs
  5. luggage waits for driver to arrive at wharehouse, at which point the driver calls the "passenger" (you) and informs you of your of his ETA. this IS the final word on when you get your bag. THERE IS THE POSSIBLITY YOU WILL GET YOUR LUGGAGE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. (time till driver gets to wharehouse after bag has arived: 2-6 hrs)
  6. the driver takes yours plus other peoples luggage in his OWN car/van to your home or business for you to sign for it. you CAN opt to waive your signature through the airline, or the dispatcher/driver will offer for you to "leave a note on the door"
  7. Total time from airline to you 4-12+ hrs
DOS & DON'TS

  • DON'TS
    • Don't give anyone a hard time
    • Don't be demanding
    • Don't curse anyone off
    • Don't provide a bad phone number or a number that you're gonna turn off
    • Do NOT make the driver walk your luggage into your house/apartment (drivers are only insured to your doorstep)
    • Drivers DO NOT work for the airline, they are independent business men so DO NOT talk down to them
    • Don't make threats at the driver or dispatcher (if you do it may prolong the time till you get your luggage)
    • don't say to a driver he hasn't heard before like:
      • "oh you're working late" (if you're gonna say this you should be gracious and tip)
      • "wow! they got you out early" (if you're gonna say this you should be gracious and tip)
      • "do i owe you anything" (you may be asked for a tip)
      • "you didn't call" when your phone is turned off
  • DOs
    • Thank the driver for delivering your luggage
    • Tip the driver (optional. but if you say any of the above you should)
    • Remember that the driver DOES NOT work for the airline and his own boss. so if you ask to speak to his boss, you are already speaking to him/her.
    • Remember if you're going to make threats on the drivers employment, that he knows where you sleep at night.
    • If you can't tip you can email the logistics company with a compliment, and/or in the case of this contractor: i'm on AngiesList.com & LinkedIn.com or you can post comments to this blog directly
